3D ANIMATION ARTISTS – Application Deadline March 19th, 2025
We are seeking four highly skilled technical artists to join a linear content production team using Unreal Engine, Metahumans and multiple AI tools for the Summer and Fall semesters of 2025. This project is focused on creating an animated pilot using advanced virtual production techniques, realistic digital characters (Metahumans), and detailed environments.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Metahuman customization and manipulation
- Custom hair groom creation and management
- Technical animation and rigging
- Advanced clothing simulations using Marvelous Designer
- Environment creation and Megascans integration
- Python scripting for workflow automation and Metahuman DNA configuration in Unreal Engine 5.5+
- Conforming custom character models to Metahuman rigs (Control Rig)
- Material generation and complex shader development
- Retopologizing both hard-surface and organic models
- Motion capture integration and retargeting
- Lighting setup for cinematic quality renders
Project Duration:
The job requires working on a proposal to obtain funding for the project during the Spring semester.
Once funding is achieved, the production will go from May 19th – December 11th, 2025.
Time Commitment: Approximately 10 hours per week (flexible scheduling.)
Ideal Skills:
- Strong proficiency in Unreal Engine 5.5+
- Technical expertise in Python scripting within Unreal, especially Metahuman DNA configuration and customization
- Demonstrable experience with any of the following: Metahumans, Marvelous Designer, custom hair grooms, and advanced animation techniques
- Familiarity with Maya, Substance Painter, Megascans, ZBrush, Adobe Creative Suite, C++, SideFX Houdini, Unreal Procedural Content Generation (PCG), or similar tools
- Ability to independently learn and implement technical workflows
Non-animation majors with strong technical proficiency are encouraged to apply. There is the potential for additional, short-term roles such as setting up and configuring Perforce Helix Core P4V to function within and outside of the MTSU network.
